Green Bean Air Fryer Recipe

Right now we are on a vegetable kick ...and always on an air fryer kick. Between summer quickly coming to an end and our garden overflowing, and the knowledge that the holidays are right around the corner (and we need some new recipes), vegetables are front and center in our home.

Thankfully, working with vegetables is super easy and fresh veggies love to be paired with other veggies, oils, cheese, and heat to create dishes that are quick and easy, super tasty, and healthy.

Air fryer green beans are gluten-free, vegetarian, sugar-free, low-carb, and keto-friendly. A quick change (listed below) will also have these green beans compliant with Whole30 eaters, paleo fans, and vegans as well.

Of course, if you are concerned about the oil in the recipe, you can reduce it (or eliminate it altogether) but a good oil can be both healthy and helpful when it comes to both bringing out the flavor of the green beans and mushrooms and helping them to crisp up in the air fryer.

How to Make

Trim, season, and air fry. Making your air fried green beans is as easy as that.

Trim the Green Beans

The fastest way to get your air fryer green beans in the air fryer is to purchased already washed and trimmed green beans. If you are using garden green beans, or beans that have not been trimmed yet, you are going to need to trim them up. Simply snap off the ends and pull the string out of the center.

If your green beans are really long you can snap them in half.

Season

In a medium-sized bowl, combine the trimmed green beans, cut mushrooms, avocado oil, garlic salt, and pepper.

Air Fry

Preheat your air fryer for 3-5 minutes at 380F.

Spread the seasoned green beans and mushrooms in the air fryer basket. Try to space them evenly. It is OK if they overlap slightly.

You'll be cooking the air fryer green bean recipe for 10-11 minutes total, but you do need to check on them after 5 minutes to stir.

After stirring, keep an eye on the green beans to ensure they don't burn. They are typically done in 10-11 minutes, however, you can pull them as early as 8 minutes if you prefer them more al dente.

***COOKING TIP: If you're making air fryer green beans by themselves and not adding in mushrooms, we found that they take LESS time to cook and only needed 8-9 minutes of cook time.

Top with your favorite garnishes and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Buy pretrimmed and washed green beans to make your air fryer green bean recipe in less time.
  • Adding the mushrooms does add 2-4 minutes of cook time due to the added moisture content of the veggies, but it also adds a great layer of flavor.
  • If you are a garlic lover (like we are) sprinkle additional garlic salt just before serving.
  • We cooked our air-fried green beans in a basket-style fryer. In a large oven style fryer like our Omni Plus, the veggies may cook quicker due to more space. Keep an eye on them so they don't burn.
  • Top your air fried green beans with bacon crumbles, parmesan cheese, feta cheese, additional garlic salt, or chives just before serving.

Adapting to Diet Restrictions

Vegan - This air fryer green bean recipe is already vegan but if you want to add a cheesy flavor, sprinkle on nutritional yeast after cooking.

Whole30/Paleo - You are going to need to skip the parmesan garnish.
